Pauillac

Pauillac is located on the left bank of Medoc, which is the most famous wine producing village on the left bank. It probably covers 1000 ha area, Pauillac has 18 grands crus classés in 1855 classification in total. These 18 grands crus classés hold most of this thousand hectares area. The rest are out of grands crus classés, which also produce high quality Pauillac wine, due to the excellent terroir and micro-climate. Generally speaking, Pauillac appellation is the mark of fine wine, so its price is not cheap. Three premiers grands crus classés (1st great growth) out of 5 is another reason for Pauillac’s great repute, The 1st great growth of Pauillac are Chateau Lafite, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, within them only Chateau Mouton-Rothschild was conferred the status of first growth in 1973, the other two were in 1855.

Character: Pauillac wines are characterized by full-bodied, dense, rich tannin, better to drink after aging. They have elegant aromas of blackcurrant, cedar-wood and coffee.
From the style, it could be divided into 3 categories: e.g. Chateau Latour, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Lynch-Bages and Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste are representative of big wines, which are bold and virile, with complex structure; the second category is perfectly balanced, elegant fragrant and delicate-bodied wine, which is represented by Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Duhart Milon and Chateau Haut Batailley. The third category is soft, silky, subtle and pleasing wine, which could age, but also could drink in youth. Pauillac is the wine producing region for wine expert. Most of wine lovers particularly like its wine, although Pauillac’s wine is intransigente, never intentionally fawn on the drinker, and hard to be appreciated.
