Bordeaux – The Queen of French Wine

At the mention of French wine, people spontaneously tend to think of Bordeaux. Bordeaux is the largest high-quality wine producing region all over the world, its planting area up to 10 000 hectares, annual output of 800 million bottles of wine, in which of them, AOC has reached 95% of the total production.
Bordeaux is located in the southwestern France, has a unique climate and geographical conditions. To west, it’s near Atlantic Ocean, Gironde River slowly pass through the Bordeaux, temperate marine climate make the weather in Bordeaux always like temperately smooth. Mainly in the production of red wine, which are supple, fine and elegant, has very gentle grace of feminine, hence the “Queen of French Wine " in the title. Compared to Burgundy, which wine usually made from single grape variety, Bordeaux has the greater emphasis on blending. The charm of Bordeaux wine is on the rich, subtle texture, which co-evolution over time, evolve the rich, complex taste. Bordeaux region are made up by several communities, each community varies in wine due to different natural conditions. The Bordeaux wine is complex, elegant and harmonious.
Geography: Along two rivers, there are plains and hills around.
Producing regions: Medoc, Graves, Sauternes, Pomerol, Saint Emilion.
Climate: Atlantic warm climates, hot in summer heat.
Grape varieties:
Red: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon is major grape for Left Bank, and Merlot is main cultivation of Right Bank.
White: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon.
Wine type: 90% of red wine, the rest are white, sweet white and rose.
For France, there are more than 9000 chateaus only in Bordeaux. The region is divided into two parts by river, which are aptly referred to as "Left Bank" and "Right Bank." On the left bank, the famous production areas mainly in Medoc and Graves. Four well-known villages in Medoc, they are: Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux; while Pessac and Leognan are other famous villages in Graves. The famous villages on the right bank, mainly has Saint-Emilion and Pomerol.

Brief introduction of Bordeaux prevailing wine-producing regions:

Bordeaux region is cut by three rivers, the Garonne, Dordogne two rivers connecting nearby Bordeaux together with Gironde River, pour into the Atlantic Ocean, Garonne River on southern side, the vineyards are spread over two sides of these three major river.
The river as the boundary of left bank and right bank, in the left side of Gironde River is known as the Left Bank, the right is called the Right Bank of Bordeaux, there is a limestone plateau in the middle intersection of Garonne and Dordogne River, which was known as Entre-deux-Mers, there is no well-known production region and wineries, the wine is less brilliant than left bank and right bank.
