History
The Perriers, an important family dating back to the diligence in the 19th century! In 1825, Joseph, the son of wine merchant, Alexandre Perrier, established the Champagne House “Joseph Perrier Fils et Cie”. They settled in Châlons-Sur- Marne (now Châlons-en-Champagne), on the road to Fagnières. Joseph was later elected Mayor of the City. The offices are housed in an old post house and the wine cellars in the adjoining master residence. During that period, Chalons-Sur-Marne had several hectares of vineyards and approximately ten distinguished Champagne Houses.

1Joseph Perrier died in 1870. His grandson Gabriel Perrier, being without any heir, gave up the House of Joseph Perrier to Mr. Paul Pithois on 2nd August 1888. Pithois continued to develop the House and undertook research on wine fermentation with Louis Pasteur. And the House Joseph Perrier still belongs to this family. In 1925, the sons, Pierre and Roger Pithois, take over the management and celebrate the first hundred years. After that, Georges Pithois, son of Roger, presides over the destiny of Joseph Perrier Fils & Cie for thirty years. Georeges Pithois’ nephew, Jean-Claude Fourmon, succeeds the latter at the head of the firm. He born in Epernay, married, have three children. E.P.F.L. graduate, also an adviser to the Bank of France a member of Rotary International, the Chamber of Trade, Member of the Board of the Medef( The Confederation of French Industry) and President of Rheims Golf Club.In 1998, Joseph Perrier Champagne joined the Alain Thienot group by way of its two executives, the cousins Jean-Claude Fourmon and Alain Thienot. The development of the prestigious brand accelerates. The Joseph Perrier House is in constant expansion: New dispatching building, new production yard, new stainless steel vats with a four thousand hectolitre capacity and a new disgorgement and labelling site. The House remains located at the original address of 69 Avenue de Paris, in Chalons-en-Champagne, and loyal to its origins.

The royal coat of arms adorns all classic cuvées and symbolises the distinction attributed by Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. In the 20th century, in honour of Prince Charles’ and Prince Edward’s royal weddings, Joseph Perrier numbered and sold six hundred magnums (1.5 litres) with the royal label. The Champagne of connoisseurs, Joseph Perrier is highly appreciated by the British who are fine wine tasters. Its three signs of recognition are: the real yellow label, English calligraphy and the Châlons-en-Champagne address.
