Wine Advocate#88(8/1993)Rating:88 points Drink:1996-2012
Along with many of its Medoc neighbors, the 1988 is a hard, tough, severe style of wine that will last 15-20 years. It exhibits some of the herbaceousness resulting from Cabernet that was picked too early, but otherwise it is well-proportioned, with medium body and fine depth. Will the fruit stand up to the tannins? The finish reveals copious amounts of rich, deep, curranty fruit. This wine may merit a higher level in 4-5 years, especially if it turns out to resemble the 1966. - Robert Parker
Wine Spectator (11/30/1998)Score:87
A little more austere than when it was young, with green tobacco and cherry aromas. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a fresh finish.--1988 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now. –JS
Decanter
deep red; firm leathery nose, lacks some charm; medium-bodied, elegant, still quite tannic, peppery, no blockbuster but not tough, has fine vigour and concentration; good length. |
