                                | Tasting Note: | Chateau Taste: The wine has a fine, deep, intense colour. The complex bouquet displays notes of cocoa and vanilla, more subtle hints of smoke and tobacco-leaf and a fleeting suggestion of blackberry and humus. From the attack, it develops highly complex aromas around well-integrated tannins. The finely balanced structure combines wild berry fruit flavours (blackberry, bilberry) to give great richness on the palate, lengthening into a dense, substantial, highly expressive finish.

 Wine Advocate #128 (4/2000) Rating: 89 points Drink: 2000-2010
Because of its low acidity and evolved style, the 1997 Clerc-Milon deserves consumers' attention. Readers will enjoy its forward, concentrated, cassis/blackberry notes intertwined with coffee, smoke, spice, and chocolate. Drink this lush, hedonistic offering over the next decade. -Robert Parker

 Wine Spectator (1/31/2000) Score: 88
Very aromatic red. Interesting aromas of ripe berry and spices. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a slightly short finish. Best after 2000. –JS
